Expensive Marvel Heroes DLC explained

VG247 have contacted Gazillion Entertainment around the lavish pricing for DLC in Marvel Heroes.

Gazillion Entertainment recently released details of two DLC packs, priced at $129.99 and $99.99. Both add new villains and boosters to the game, and will release sometime between 2014 and 2015.

Gazillion have defended the pricing, claiming the $130 content is worth at least $425, whereas the $99.99 with fewer add-ons is worth more like $215.

That wouldn’t be so bad, but people can actually pre-purchase this content right now, thus leading VG247 to get in touch. Considering it’s a substantial amount of money and there isn’t even a release date for the content yet, this is a little concerning.

Senior Vice President of Marketing at Gazillion, Ivan Sulic, had this to say…

Season Passes permeate the console market, subscription MMOs still exist and Digital Collector’s Editions are routinely presold well in advance of game launches and sometimes in advance of games even having launch dates.

We don’t think we’re setting any precedent with our Marvel Heroes Advance Packs. Really, we just wanted to get something solid out pre-holiday that we felt was a good offer for our fans. We came up with these heavily discounted packs (Deluxe Edition is about 70% off!) that collected content we have scheduled for the coming months – the first bits of which might be released as early as this week.

What are your thoughts? Is this simply too much to spend in advance on a game you enjoy playing? Do you recognise the value being offered?
