Forza 5 will eventually require connection to the internet for content

In an interview with IGN, Turn 10 Studios have revealed that, while DLC isn’t required to play Forza 5, it will be necessary to finish it.

Don’t worry, that DLC is free, but it does mean that, at some point, you’ll need to have connected your Xbox One to the internet in order to finish the Forza 5 campaign.

The content required will consist of cars, tracks and the most important part, Drivatar data. This information won’t be needed straight away, but it will be required at some point in the game.

“While playing, the player will be asked to connect to Live in order to download a completely fresh set of player-created Drivatar opponents – it’s not a lot of data, but the download contains enough Drivatars to cover all difficulty settings,”

“Connecting will also download new content – but the vast majority of the launch content is contained on the disc. This download is simply additional cars and tracks. The gameplay is not blocked while downloading the additional content; it’s done in the background just like disc install.”

Here comes the but…

“The player won’t be blocked from playing the game” if they’ve never connected it to Xbox Live, but deeper areas in the career mode were designed to utilize these additional cars and tracks.”

This is, unquestionably, our gaming future. It’s a way to make sure games actually get to go Gold when the developers intend and publishers desire. It also means a game can always be automatically updated on the fly, providing a net connection is available in the home.

So, sure, Microsoft removed the daily requirement of connecting to the web, but that doesn’t mean you won’t be able to connect at all. And yes, Sony is also sure to be doing the same thing with Playstation 4 games.

What are your thoughts?
