New Mario Kart 8 features detailed

Unquestionably, there’s a lot riding on Mario Kart 8 as far as Nintendo are concerned. But the way the game is shaping up, they have plenty to be confident about.

Come May 30th, the game will launch on Wii U and if you purchase and register it before July 31, you can claim one of ten Wii U titles for no additional charge. How generous!

The full list is shown below..

  • New Super Mario Brothers U
  • Wind Waker HD
  • Pikmin 3
  • Wii Party U
  • Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate
  • Nintendo Land
  • The Wonderful 101
  • Sonic Lost World
  • Mario and Sonic at the Olympic Winter Games
  • Game and Wario

We also learned about some new multiplayer details. You can race against 11 other drivers and use voice chat during the game. There are also four modes available, including Worldwide, Regional, Friends and Tournament matches. As far as Tournament matches are concerned, the rules can be adapted and times can be set, as well as days of the week.

There will also be new weapons to use in battle. The Super Horn produces a shockwave that takes out everything in the nearby area. The Crazy Eight is a mix of eight items that a player can use one after another. The Boomerang Flower can be fired once, but even if it misses, it can potentially strike an opponent on a rebound. The Piranha Plant has also been added to the game.

In total, Mario Kart 8 will have thirty different drivers, including Baby Rosalina and Pink Gold Peach. Pink Gold Peach has also been made metallic, just like Mario.

There is also a special Mario Kart TV, which is Nintendo’s own form of a streaming service. Unfortunately, Twitch support looks to be out, but Nintendo are going to try their hand at letting you stream your races. How that will go is anyone’s guess, but we can’t wait to see the interface in full.
