Each week, we’ll spotlight a new game release that we’re hyped about – and this one is a bit of something old and new.

Capcom are back in the spotlight again following last week’s Capcom Fighting Collection 2, and are once again re-releasing a title in Onimusha 2: Samurai’s Destiny on May 23.

Onimusha 2 originally released on the PS2 back in 2002 and follows Capcom’s re-release of Onimusha Warlords in 2019 and ahead of a brand new installment in the franchise next year – Onimusha: Way of the Sword.

Onimusha 2: Samurai’s Destiny is essentially a remaster of the classic original with HD graphics and ‘improved controls’ to suit modern platforms. While the game is a sequel to the original Onimusha Warlords, you play as an all new protagonist in Jubei Yagyu, who is a quest for revenge in feudal Japan.

Samurai’s Destiny also includes other additional features, such as a Gallery Mode which has over 100 sketches from the original character designer, Keita Amemiya, as well as a digital soundtrack selection with 43 tracks.

A ‘Hell Mode’ difficulty is also being added where, basically, if you’re hit even once, it’s game over. Yikes! And you can also play the mini games from the beginning – Man in Black, Team Oni, and Puzzle Phantom Realm.

An auto-save feature and easy weapon switch is also being included to make it easier to dive in and play.

Onimusha 2: Samurai’s Destiny is a fantastic addition to the series and if you’ve never had the chance to play, you’re in for a treat. Warlords was already a very cool upgrade of the original game, so if this follows a similar tempo – and knowing Capcom it probably will – this will be a great introduction to Way of the Sword next year.
