Sora from Kingdom Hearts will be the final DLC for Super Smash Bros Ultimate

The wait/hype/suspense/rumour mill is over – Sora is coming to Super Smash Bros Ultimate.

Confirmed today by game director Masahiro Sakurai, Kingdom Hearts will finally get that long awaited crossover with the greatest fighting tournament in the industry from October 19th.

Using his Keyblade for attacks, Sora is an airborne fighter, that feels very light and freely launches at opponents.

Sakurai has revealed plans for this date as far back as the Wii U/3DS versions of Smash and have been kept secret until today.

In true Kingdom Hearts style, Sora will be able to cast spells at his enemies – specifically Firaga, Blizzaga and Thundaga.

As with other releases, there’ll be a wealth of costume changes for Sora that reflect the different Kingdom Hearts games, and there’ll be 9 different music tracks from the games as well. Plus if you own Melody of Memory you’ll unlock an extra song on top of that.

Sora’s stage is Hollow Bastion and his final Smash is called Sealing the Keyhole!

Released as part of Challenger Pack 11 within Season Pass 2, the Sora DLC will retail for $5.99 standalone or as part of the Fighters Pass Vol 2 for $29.99.

Previously revealed in this pack were Kazuya Mishima (Tekken), Min Min (Arms), Steve and Alex (Minecraft), Sephiroth (Final Fantasy 7), and Pyra/Mythra (Xenoblade Chronicles 2)

Other revealed iconic characters for the game have included Joker from Persona 5, Banjo & Kazooie, and Terry from Fatal Fury.

New Mii Fighter costumes have also been revealed including Doomguy, Octoling and Jud.

In addition to the big news, Sakurai has also confirmed that ALL Kingdom Hearts games are coming to Nintendo Switch. Although, there is a bit of a catch as it’s going to be through the Cloud-based system. Eek!

We just want to take a moment to acknowledge what an incredible accomplishment Super Smash Bros Ultimate is. There’s no other game that has brought such iconic franchises together in such an incredible way.

While today’s reveal was always going to upset and disappoint someone who had been expecting something different, we cannot think of a more perfect way to end the DLC run for this superb game and cannot wait to check out Sora for ourselves. Thank you, Sakurai.

Challenge Pack 11 releases exclusively on Nintendo Switch on October 19th.
