What do Best Buy, Gamestop, God of War: Ascension, 300 and the History Channel have in common?
Exclusive DLC, that’s what…
In two unique collaborations, Sony have announced that those who pre-order God of War: Ascension from Best Buy will receive an exclusive DLC item from upcoming History TV show ‘Vikings’. However, if they pre-order from Gamestop, they will receive an exclusive King Leonidas skin from the movie, 300.
The Mighty Mjölnir, the Hammer of Thor will be usable in multiplayer, and is given to Best Buy pre-ordering customers as a voucher (while stocks last) – The voucher code will also provide access to the Mythological Heroes Multiplayer DLC Pack, which includes four unique armor sets representing four of ancient Greece’s greatest mythological heroes – Achilles, Perseus, Orion and Odysseus. Vikings airs on History on March 3rd.
Meanwhile, Gamestop customers will get a voucher to play as Gerard Butler inspired King Leonidas from the movie, 300. The character includes the vintage helmet, red cape, and, of course, the spear. The character will be usable in multiplayer.
While the God of War series has some ties to ancient mythology, we still think these collaborations are…well…stretching things a bit. Between this, and the massive endorsements games have been giving TV shows in recent weeks (Hitman & Tomb Raider sponsoring Arrow and Bioshock Infinite with Spartacus: War of the Damned) we’re certainly seeing much more cross-over between markets.
According to Sony, there will also be exclusive ‘Vikings’ content available to players who experience the demo.
