Bill Trinen, Senior Product Marketing Manager at Nintendo, has talked about the possibility of Super Smash Bros Ultimate receiving DLC.
While nothing has been confirmed, during an interview with IGN at San Diego Comic Con, Bill talked about the possibility of both receiving a demo for Smash and what the future might hold for the game post-launch.
Super Smash Bros Ultimate features every single character that has ever appeared in a Smash Bros game, as well as adding the much-requested Ridley from Metroid for the very first time.
Bill couldn’t be drawn into full answers either way, though did say about the possibility of DLC..
“Obviously that was a big part of the Wii U game, but part of Mr. Sakurai’s approach is really focusing on getting the game done, and then once he has the game done, he’ll start to make some decisions about what he want to do. Whether or not he decides to do DLC again, or whether or not he decides this is the ultimate edition and there’s nothing more I can fit in there. We’ll have to see as we get closer to launch.”
Considering Nintendo’s refreshed approach to DLC over the last few years, I can’t imagine a more perfect game to keep expanding upon in the months and years to come.
As for a demo, all Bill would say is
“Right now they’re focused very much on getting the game ready. We have a few other things to talk about down the road between now and when it launches in December. We’ll hopefully have some news on that as we get closer to launch.”
