A surprise shadow drop from Digital Eclipse today sees the return of 80s classic, Wizardry.
Now available in Steam Early Access, in collaboration with Sir-Tech, Wizardry: Proving Grounds of the Mad Overlord updates the original dungeon crawler that inspired a genre.
Available in Early Access on both Steam and GOG, this remake is apparently ‘built on top of the original Apple II game’s code’ through Unreal Engine in a bid to make sure it feels as authentic to the original as possible. You’ll also be able to play the Apple II original, should you feel so inclined.
The remake includes modern graphics, as well as ‘improved party management, navigation, spellcasting and combat’.
In development for two years already, the base game is now playable, but has been brought into Early Access for feedback rounds. It is expected to leave Early Access by the end of 2024, at which point the existing price point will rise.
Other features expected to be added to Wizardry over the course of Early Access include updated graphical and audio elements, text localization, and much more.
Wizardry is now available in Early Access on Steam and GOG. A console release is currently not confirmed and won’t release before the end of the Early Access period.
