The story of Sleeping Dogs development cycle is one of legend. At one point, it was set to be a True Crime sequel and was Activision’s well-targetted attack at the GTA and Saints Row franchise. However, after budgets were slashed and priorities shifted, Activision shelved the project.
A few years on, Square Enix bought it out from underneath them, rebranded, and released in August to critical adulation.
Despite Bethesda’s phenomenally successful Dishonored, as well as other remarkable new IP, Sleeping Dogs sold the most of any new IP in 2012.
To celebrate, Square Enix have sent out a press release, indicating their continued support to the game going into 2013.
Now confirmed, Year of the Snake sees the continuation of Wei Shen’s story as he rejoins the ranks of the Hong Kong Police Department in a series of new missions set immediately after the main game.
Square Enix have also unveiled the Wheels of Fury pack which introduces a weaponised super car into the game. The DZS-90 will provide an armoured and weaponised mega-machine that can be continually upgraded and developed after the completion of each mission.
There’s also the Law Enforcer Pack which gives players access to police department gear, including two new cop outfits, a new weapon and five police vehicles.
Square Enix also re-iterated that both ‘The Monkey King Pack’ and ‘Movie Masters Pack’ are now available to download for the game.
Sleeping Dogs launched with a commitment to six months of add-on content. Square Enix are definitely holding up their end of the bargain!
