Diablo IV Season of the Malignant drops on July 20

The first season of content is arriving for Diablo IV later this month.

The Season of the Malignant has been confirmed for July 20 with prerelease beginning on July 18.

Initially, the update will add some balance changes, quality of life updates and new loot, but you won’t be able to make a start with a Seasonal character until July 20.

A whole new storyline will be added into the game

This is when a free patch will hit the game featuring balance changes, quality of life changes and even new Legendaries and Uniques added in the season that will be able to start dropping in the Eternal Realm. But you cannot make a seasonal character yet and actually start the season.

From that point on, new cosmetics will be added to the store, and mechanics will be added to the game as part of the free update.

In the new storyline, players will meet an NPC who tells them about a spreading plague which is infecting monsters, making them stronger than ever. In order to play Season 1, you will need to have beaten the main game at least once. From there, you begin your route through the 100 Tier Battle Pass, which includes seasonal challenges and tons of unique rewards.

Alongside the tougher enemies, players will also have a new boss to fight against – Varshan the Consumed.

Enemies will also drop Caged Hearts that work like gems which can be socketed into armor. The general hearts are pretty random, but there’s ultra rare hearts which are much more powerful and can be really effective.

Diablo IV Season of the Malignant begins July 20.
