Directive 8020 has bonus mission that connects it to the wider Dark Pictures series

The long-awaited, sci-fi inspired Dark Pictures Horror Game releases next week.

Following the massive success of games such as The Devil Inside Me, Man of Medan, and House of Ashes, Directive 8020 takes things in a whole new direction. Literally.

This time, players will launch into space, 12 light years from Earth, as a colony ship – Cassiopeia – crash-lands on a far-off planet that potentially offers some sliver of hope to a dying humanity.

But, of course, in true Dark Pictures fashion, horrors await. Decisions must be made. And not everyone is going to make it out alive. Or are they?

Releasing May 12 across PC, PS and Xbox, if you pre-order the game, you can get yourself a free digital deluxe edition upgrade that gives some sweet bonuses. And it comes with ALL purchases.

For a limited time, you can get The Dark Pictures Outfit Pack which adds iconic outfits for the characters from previous Dark Pictures games, as Carter can wear Jason’s army outfit from House of Ashes, and Anders can wear Julia’s diving trip outfit from Man of Medan.

A cinematic filter pack can also be added which adds a 60s, 70s and 80s visual filter to the game, allowing you to play the way you want to. The 60s filter is classic black and white, whereas the 70s boasts an Alien style 8mm-style film grain and the 80s filter, of course, gives you that retro VHS style aesthetic.

But in addition to a digital artbook and soundtrack that let you go further behind the scenes, excitingly, a bonus mission can also be picked up as part of the collection – The Dark Pictures Heirlooms Retrieval. In the assignment, players must ‘track down hidden dolls and relics from Man of Medan, Little Hope, House of Ashes and The Devil In Me.’

Apparently, each collectable connects the respective game to Directive 8020 and the wider Dark Pictures universe. Sounds intriguing…

Directive 8020 boasts a starring cast as has previous games, led by Lashana Lynch conducting voice and motion capture as the astronaut ‘Young’ – who faces real-time alien threats, in a scenario where you never know who to trust.

Fortunately, you can rewind certain key decisions if you don’t like the way something played out with the new Turning Points mechanic and you also don’t have to play alone as the game offers couch co-op for up to five players.

Directive 8020 is sure to be another classic Dark Pictures adventure and it launches May 12!
