Game Showcase: Capcom Fighting Collection 2

Each week, we’ll spotlight a new game release that we’re hyped about and this time Capcom are back in the spotlight.

Following the roaring success of Monster Hunter Wilds earlier this year, Capcom have two more surprise launches this month, the first of which is Capcom Fighting Collection 2 out on May 15.

It’s not the first of these bundles we’ve seen from Capcom in recent years. Last year we got the excellent Marvel vs Capcom Fighting Collection that brought back some lost to time battlers as well as a few fan favourites.

We’ve also seen Capcom Fighting Collection a few years back and even a Beat-Em-Up bundle. But this month sees the very much long awaited return of one of Capcom’s long forgotten IPs. A franchise people have talked up about a return of for years and had long given up hope.

I’m talking Power Stone.  Yes, THAT Power Stone!

This just shows what a rich heritage Capcom has with fighters, but in the previous collection you also had the likes of Darkstalkers, Vampire Savior and Cyberbots. As well as Street Fighter, of course.

And in Capcom Fighting Collection 2 not only is Power Stone making a huge comeback with both 1 and 2, but you’ll also get Street Fighter Alpha 3 UPPER and the beloved Capcom vs SNK 1 and 2, which somehow, might even be the highlight of this stacked collection.

Here’s the full lineup…

  • Capcom vs. SNK: Millennium Fight 2000 Pro
  • Capcom vs. SNK 2: Mark of the Millennium 2001
  • Capcom Fighting Evolution
  • Street Fighter Alpha 3 UPPER
  • Power Stone
  • Power Stone 2
  • Project Justice
  • Plasma Sword: Nightmare of Bilstein
This extremely generous collection comes in at £34.99 / $39.99, and for 8 classic fighters, seems like a total steal. Considering the quality of Capcom’s previous collections, it also seems like a complete must. Especially in the case of Power Stone which was last seen and playable on the Dreamcast!
As before, each of the games is playable online or in co-op with really slick online play that has ranked battles or casual. This opens you up to ‘create a lobby with friends and battle head-to-head, play co-op, or spectate other matches’. All games featured rollback netcode, which is a game changer for most of these which have never benefitted from them before.
There is also a High Score Challenge that lets you aim to reach the top of global leaderboards.
The games have also been redesigned in a way that if you’ve never played them or a fighter before, you can adjust the difficultly, have one button specials and even training modes. There’s also save and load states as well to make it even easier to dip in and out as you feel like.
And as with all other collections, Capcom have bundled in a ton of extras with ‘more than 700 pieces of artwork from all 8 games’ and ‘never-before-seen development documents used to make the original games’.
On top of that, more than 300 tracks from the original arcade games have been added in so you can listen to your favourites whenever you want.
Those who pre-purchase ahead of May 15 can grab two additional songs in the Museum mode.
– Soy Sauce for Geese – Arranged by CAP-JAMS: Capcom vs SNK: Millennium Fight 2000 Pro
– Rival Schools Medley – Arranged by CAP-JAMS: Project Justice
Despite the fact that DOOM: The Dark Ages is dropping this week – and believe us, it was pretty close between the two which was going to get the nod here – it’s hard to overlook the significance and importance of Power Stone making such a long-awaited return, as well as these other iconic Capcom fighters.
Don’t let this fighter collection sneak past you, this one is going to be special!
