Game Showcase: Star Wars Episode I: Jedi Power Battles

Every week, we’ll be shining a spotlight on a game ahead of its release and this time it’s an unexpected return to Star Wars.

It truly feels like Lucasfilm is all about preserving every Star Wars game ever made, but it’s a little surprising Jedi Power Battles came next with so many heavy hitters yet to get that treatment.

As the title suggests, it’s set during the timeline of The Phantom Menace and as the cover eludes, you’ll get hands on with the likes of Mace Windu and Obi Wan Kenobi.

Celebrating the 25th anniversary of the PS1, GBA and Dreamcast game, Aspyr have opted to remaster this original for modern systems, while also throwing in some brand new content, including a playable Jar Jar Binks.

Coming to PS4,5, Xbox, Switch and PC on January 23, 2025, players will need to use their Force powers and lightsabers to fight off familiar foes and enemies from Star Wars and the prequel trilogy specifically. You’ll recognise locations such as Theed Royal Palace and Naboo in a race to face down and confront Darth Maul himself.

Described as a mix of a platformer and a beat-em-up, Jedi Power Battles has ten levels, you can play solo or in 2 player couch co-op for the entire game and even through bonus mini games.

Other fighters include Plo Koon, Adi Gallia and Qui-Gon Jinn, as well as Captain Panaka, Queen Amidala, Ki-Adi Mundi, Battle Droid and, of course, Darth Maul. All will be playable in the remaster coming out this week, but some of these characters were previously only available on one format or removed entirely.

The remaster will enable you to move between classic or modern controls and can check out the up to date visuals, such as toggling Lightsaber colors and adding new Cheat code modes, such as Big Head mode. You’ll also be able to dive into a New Game + mode and even play other brand new characters never been seen in the game, including…

  • Tusken Raider
  • Rifle Droid
  • Staff Tusken Raider
  • Ishi Tib
  • Mercenary
  • Flame Droid
  • Rodian
  • Gungan Guard
  • Destroyer Droid
  • Pilot Droid
  • Weequay
  • Rifle Tusken Raider

Coming in at a relatively low price and in a semi quiet period, this seems like a great way to have a bit of fun in the Star Wars universe with a buddy, celebrating one of the franchises’ key games.
