Mario Kart 8 has been officially revealed for Wii U and will hit Spring 2014.
The game takes the best elements of previous installments and adds a few new ones of its own.
Mario Kart 7 introduced gliding and underwater travel in courses and that’s absolutely back in Mario Kart 8. However, it’s the unique gravity mechanic thats got everybody talking about Nintendo’s latest racer.
Hovering Karts and Bikes will be playable in the game, enabling players to climb up walls, drive upside down and downside up. This allows for crafty new shortcuts and more freedom in a Mario Kart game than ever before. I can’t wait to see the new Rainbow Road…
The Wii U Gamepad makes use of tilt in Mario Kart 8, turning the pad into a racing wheel, though some hands-on impressions have said this doesn’t work particularly well. Meanwhile, the gamepad screen shows player’s track positions. There’s also a touchscreen horn in the centre of the screen that can be used to scare opponents when coming up on them.
People have been clamouring and calling out for a new F-Zero. While this isn’t it, there’s definitely nods and winks to the game’s crazy driving style in this latest Mario Kart, and frankly, I think we’ve got a better end-product for it.
