LEGO City Undercover will not feature multiplayer

In a first for the LEGO series of games, multiplayer will not be coming to Wii U exclusive, LEGO City Undercover.

While Traveller’s Tales have not actually come out and confirmed this, the game’s official website indicates that the massive sandbox LEGO experience will be a 1 player game. Considering the series is renowned for multiplayer, this is a surprising omission.

I assume this has a lot to do with the Wii U Gamepad integration, making it difficult for other players to drop in/out as we’ve seen in LEGO Lord of the Rings/Star Wars/Indy/every other LEGO game to date. This is also the biggest LEGO game that TT have made and has regularly been compared to the likes of GTA for its sandbox style. Still, this certainly makes things interesting in terms of expansive opportunities for the game. With LEGO Lord of the Rings, DLC was provided for players to check out different characters in character packs. It’s unlikely we’ll have something similar here. It also makes an interesting case for all other future DLC for the game and whether or not there will be extra single-player missions down the road?

Will it have any at all?
