Gearbox Software have confirmed at PAX East that the long awaited level cap for Borderlands 2 comes into effect on April 2nd.
The level cap will be made available for all Borderlands 2 users and adds 11 new levels to the game, bringing the level cap total to 61.
Along with the level cap raise, Gearbox are adding a new weapon tier: Pearlescent. These weapons were a big part of Borderlands 1 and will now serve as the rarest loot in Borderlands 2.
Along with this update, Gearbox are also introducing a new mode called Ultimate Vault Hunters mode. This will be free for all players and will be available to anyone who has beaten True Vault Hunter Mode and reached level 50. All enemies will now be scaled to the highest level in the party.
Here comes the controversial bit. The level cap increase will be free for Season Pass holders, but will cost $4.99 for everyone else. Yes, you will have to pay to raise your level if you’re not a Season Pass holder. That’s not going to go down well with some…
Gearbox have revealed that the level cap upgrade is not the final piece of content for the Season Pass and a fourth campaign is being worked on and will arrive before the end of June.
Meanwhile, we learned more details about the new playable class coming to Borderlands 2. Krieg is a Psycho character and will be released for 800 MSP/$9.99.
The class has three talent trees, Bloodlust, Mania and Hellborn. He also has a Blood Axe Rampage skill which lets him regain health while attacking an enemy. The class will be released in May and is not part of the Borderlands 2 season pass.
