The Evil Within gets new gameplay trailer. Releases in August

It takes a twisted imagination to conjure up some of the horror you’re about to see in this trailer. Tango Gameworks, headed up by Shinji Mikami, the creator of Resident Evil, want to bring back horror to gaming. They want to terrify and revulse you. Frankly, The Evil Within looks like it might accomplish just that.

This trailer shows off the in-game engine, some dramatic set-piece events, action and cut-scenes, and also gives a flavour for the narrative.  Oh, and it shows off Boxman in full fledged detail. Something you’ll probably wish you’d never asked for.

The plot follows Detective Sebastien Castellanos. He and his partners are called in to investigate a gruesome mass murder and after witnessing a mysterious force slaughter his fellow officers, Sebastian is ambushed and knocked unconscious. When the video opens, he finds his world has been turned upside down. Fighting for survival in a world where hideous creatures wander among the dead, Sebastian embarks on a frightening journey to unravel who or what is behind this unimaginable evil.

The Evil Within will be released on August 26, 2014 for the Xbox One, Xbox 360, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 3, and PC.

Bethesda are publishing big this year. With Wolfenstein due next month, The Elder Scrolls Online already released and now The Evil Within in August, they have a next-gen line-up to be reckoned with in 2014.

This trailer comes from PAX East. Prepare yourselves. It’s not an easy watch…
