We may be out of Gamescom but that doesn’t mean the rumour mill stops turning.
There’s a couple of interesting stories doing the rounds, though it remains to be seen whether there’s any truth to them.
Previously, we haven’t reported most rumours on Expansive as we haven’t been able to corroborate those stories and we like the information to be confirmed and out there. What we’ve opted to do instead is roundup the week’s top rumours, linking you to the information, but in a twist we’ll review them a few months down the line to see whether there’s actually any merit to them! This might help you keep track of who is spreading false information and who’s reporting checks out.
Please bare in mind none of the information you see below has been confirmed publically by respective publishers / developers and at this time should not be treated as factual.
This week’s top rumours
- The biggest story of the past week seems to have been a suspected acquisition of EA by Amazon. It comes from a previously trustworthy source at USA Today/GLHF, though appears to have been debunked, at least for now. It’s not the first time conversations around EA being acquired have come up and honestly, with Amazon and Netflix seemingly wanting to produce more gaming-related TV shows and films, it makes plenty of sense. 2022 has definitely been the year of the acquisition, so we’re not closing the book on this one just yet.
- In more EA news, it seems like they are working with Koei Tecmo on a brand new IP. That’s according to both Jeff Grubb and a Discord user who found a new Origin API (that’s since been deactivated) No word on titles or what kind of game it’ll be, but it doesn’t sound like we’ll be waiting long for details as it’s suggested it could be revealed as soon as next month.
- According to Miller on Twitter, it seems Embracer are trying to work with Marvel to extend a gaming deal that goes beyond Avengers and possibly lends speculation to more DLC and maybe even a Guardians of the Galaxy 2. This wouldn’t be a surprise, though the timing is interesting with speculation surrounding EA and Ubisoft working on Marvel properties. Seems the license could be going the Star Wars route with more publishers getting a slice of the pie. I guess we’ll see.
- In remake news, Liam Robertson may be hinting towards F-Zero GX coming to Switch. Or maybe not, Nintendo “leaks” often aren’t worth the tweets they’re written on these days.
- Finally, PlayStation Size reckons they’ve found listings for two new PlayStation games that could be announced at TGS. Valkyrie Elysium Demo Version and Voice of Cards: The Beasts of Burden – There’s key art, so this seems likely, but obviously nothing confirmed until it’s confirmed.
