Rollerdrome is a tough game with lots of variables to consider and not a lot of time to think about them.
Whether you’re weighing up using the Grenade Launcher to blast your way through the hordes, picking enemies off one by one or just trying to survive for as long as possible.
We’ve learned some things along the way that may just help out in a pinch. Before you know it, you’ll be a Rollerdrome legend with the world at your feet.
If you want to know what we thought of Rollerdrome, check out our full preview and overview impressions.
#1 Learn the routes
It’s tricky to know where best to start in Rollerdrome but the way that helped me was just learning the routes, the shortcuts, the secrets, and making sure I can get around as quickly and efficiently as possible.
For me, I whizzed through each level, just shooting through everyone and everything, dodging when I could. Initially, I wasn’t worried about the challenges – that can come later. I just wanted to make sure I knew what to expect, who to expect and where they’d spawn and pop up. That was actually invaluable later on when I was trying to target a challenge or improve my score.
#2 Focus on individual challenges
Trying to take on all challenges at once will often result in failure unless you’re an expert or naturally gifted at these kinds of games. So work through them one at a time, pick out the easiest ones and work your way up.
Are you better at getting a 25x combo than performing a grab trick near the trick token? Do that. Feel more confident dodging mines than stunning a riot guard? There’s your start point.
Completing challenges is crucial to moving onto the next round, so you’ll probably have to revisit levels a few times, but you don’t have to complete all challenges in all levels to move on, so pick the ones that seem manageable.
Keep at it, no matter how long it takes. Because once it’s ticked, you don’t have to worry about it again.
#3 Learn Enemy Patterns and Weaknesses
All these probably sound super obvious, but trust me, this is important to making progress. If you spot an enemy and have the muscle memory to know exactly what downs them quickly and efficiently, you’ll be able to get through rounds much quicker.
Riot Guards can often be stunned with Shotguns and Grenade launchers, leaving them susceptible to a more close up, dangerous followup attack.
The Polybeam will disappear the moment you hit them, so slowing down time and unloading a full handgun clip or crossbow into them is a really effective way to go.
As you try to take on tougher challenges and try to climb leaderboards, this knowledge can be all the difference to how you place.
#4 Quick reloads
So, yeah, sure, you want to pull off all manner of fancy tricks and really want to bolster your score. Absolutely, totally do that, but you also need to try and survive out there and you don’t want to leave yourself defenceless.
Sometimes it’s worth just doing a few quick tricks as you skate around on the ground, not waiting for the halfpipe, just to make sure you’re keeping your clips topped up so you can fire back.
There’s nothing worse than being up close and personal with a sniper and realising you’ve got no ammo to shoot them with. Keep an eye out and keep yourself loaded up as much as you possibly can.
#5 Use your Assists
If all else fails and you’re still getting overwhelmed, the game has a wealth of Assist options that mean you can play through beginning to end without so much as a scratch. Really!
In the Menu, right at the top is Invincibility which basically makes you untouchable, meaning you can cruise around, taking shots and laugh in the face of danger. It’s wonderful!
You can also add Infinite Ammo, meaning no tricks to reload, Infinite Reflex Time, so no cooldowns on Bullet Time, and even remove the Barrier of Challenges to move to the final stage!
If you don’t want to quite go that far, you can scale down the damage Kara takes to a less painful level. Or you can tone down the game’s speed to make it a little less frantic.
This is just such a wonderful gesture from Roll 7 and it basically means anyone can enjoy Rollerdrome, which is what it’s really all about!
