Super Mario Galaxy is back in a big way this week as both Wii games will now arrive on Nintendo Switch.
Sold together as a bundle or seperately, these editions of both games will be considered definitive in terms of performance, visual quality and functionality to take advantage of Nintendo Switch. The release will celebrate the 40th Anniversary of Super Mario Bros.
The interesting thing to note is this version of Super Mario Galaxy will improve upon the one found in Super Mario 3D All Stars.
In Galaxy 1, you’ll have improved visuals, an Assist Mode that provides additional health and even allows you to heal by standing still. There’s also an additional chapter of Rosalina’s picture book and the ability to listen to all 82 tracks from the OST in the main menu.
As for Super Mario Galaxy 2, never before released outside of the Wii, it also boasts the same updates and features, but both games will also have a free update making them compatible with Nintendo Switch 2, allowing you to play both in stunning 4K or at 1080p in handheld.
Additionally, both games will support Amiibo and Nintendo are even releasing some brand new Amiibo for the re-releases. For now, you’ll be able to tap your Mario or Rosalina Amiibo to receive a Life Mushroom or 1-Up Mushroom. Other Mario series Amiibo can also be used to get coins.
Then on April 2nd, 2026, Super Mario Galaxy + Super Mario Galaxy 2 Mario & Luma and Rosalina and Lumas Amiibo will be released!
Super Mario Galaxy 1 +2 will launch on Nintendo Switch 1 and 2 on October 2nd, as either standalone or sold together as a bundle.
