A minor firmware update has been released for Wii U today and prepares users for a larger one coming between September and October.
This minor update allows the Wii U to connect to the Nintendo Network while in Stand by mode. This allows the system to download SpotPass data, as well as system and software updates.
Meanwhile software updates will install while the Wii U is off but system updates will finish installing when the console is turned on.
Nintendo have also given a small indication as to what the next major firmware update will focus on. Excitingly, the next update is said to further increase the speed of the system, as well as add new features currently unrevealed at this time.
The update can be downloaded right now.
