Call of Duty Black Ops Cold War has finally been revealed and it releases this November across current and next gen formats.
There’s a lot of information to digest, between the different editions, how cross-generation support works, and what DLC is available.
We’ve broken it down as simply as we can in this guide to help you decide which version of the game is right for you.
Formats
Call of Duty Black Ops Cold War will release on PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X, and PC via Battle.net. The game releases from November 13th.
Digital Editions
Each version of the game will include the Confrontation Weapons Pack as DLC. You can purchase a Standard, Cross-Gen Bundle, and Ultimate Edition digitally.
Those who pre-order the game will also gain early access to the Open Beta and the Woods Operator Pack.
The Standard Edition ($59.99) enables you to play the game on PC, PS4 and Xbox One from November 13th. Black Ops Cold War also features cross-play and cross progression, meaning you can play with your friends no matter which system they’re on.
Cross Progression also means your stats and profile carry across with you if you do upgrade to a next-gen system from current-gen.
The Digital Cross-Gen Edition ($69.99) means you have immediate access to Call of Duty Black Ops Cold War on both current-gen and next-gen platforms.
So if you purchase on PlayStation, you’ll have both PS4 and PS5 versions. If you purchase on Xbox, you can play on both Xbox One and Xbox Series X.
Finally, the Ultimate Edition ($89.99) includes the Cross-Gen Edition for your platform of choice, as well as the Land, Sea, and Air Pack, and a Battle Pass Bundle for any post-launch season and it includes 20 Tier Skips.
Interestingly, if you order the Ultimate Edition from the Modern Warfare or Warzone store, you’ll receive 10 instantly activated Tier Skips for the current Battle Pass System in Modern Warfare (and Warzone)
Meanwhile the Land, Sea & Air DLC Pack, adds three themed packs, each containing an Operator Skin, Vehicle Skin, and Weapon Blueprint. These will all be available immediately in Black Ops Cold War at launch.
Full description of the Land, Sea & Air Pack DLC can be seen below.
Land Themed Pack
Whether you call it the “motherland” or the “homeland,” these three items will help clean house of any hostile forces.
· Operator Skin –Ground infantry with bandolier and mesh face camouflage.
· Weapon Blueprint – “Sucker Punch” Shotgun – A sawed off-stock and shorter barrel more than mitigates the weight of shells taped to the side, with the weapon’s simple appearance allowing it to blend into most non-tundra engagement environments.
· Vehicle Skin “Red Bear” – The colorful blue hue seems a little worn, but the bright red star on the side will made this a standout tank among a platoon.
Sea Themed Pack
Suit up for operations at sea to maneuver behind enemy lines.
· Operator Skin –Special operations wetsuit.
· Weapon Blueprint “Black Tide” Assault Rifle – Chambered for 5.56x45mm NATO cartridges, the Black Tide’s a gold standard for any Operator, a fitting label for a blueprint that features subtle, yet intricate, gold accents.
· Vehicle Skin “Leviathan” Skin– A striking zebra-like pattern is only broken up by necessary accessories, including its classy seafaring trim and decals.
Air Themed Pack
Be a maverick and prepare for take-off with this pack – its contents allow any Operator with ace flying skills to also look the part.
· Operator Skin – Airborne division operator flightsuit.
· Weapon Blueprint “Wingman” Pistol – Like any good co-pilot or emergency parachute, this reliable sidearm can be phenomenal in a pinch, and comes with a design that includes a signature fin flash insignia and checkered muzzle.
· Vehicle Skin “Death Dealer” Skin – This hulking beast of a chopper forgoes the more extreme checkered pattern seen on a Blueprint and Operator Skin for yellow markings on a blue-painted base, with a devilish bomb-dropping caricature plastered on for a dark comedic effect.
Physical Editions
The physical standard edition for the games is a bit more complex as the PlayStation 4 physical edition CAN be upgraded to the PlayStation 5 version through the PlayStation store for an additional fee.
Unfortunately, the Xbox One physical version CANNOT be upgraded to the Xbox Series X version.
Interestingly, however, both current-generation versions will be playable on next gen systems through backwards compatibility. This version won’t, however, include next-gen specific features, such as higher framerate, hardware-based ray-tracing, faster load times, and more.
There will also be next-gen physical releases for Call of Duty Black Ops Cold War. The PS5 version will just contain the PS5 version of the game on the disc. The Xbox Series X Standard Edition, however, will include both Series X and Xbox One versions of the game on the disc.
