At Activision Blizzard’s Gamescom conference a few minutes ago, the new Expansion for Diablo 3 was just announced – Diablo 3: Reaper Of Souls.
The game will feature a brand new story focusing on the rather angry angel of death Malthael and his quest for world domination. Reaper Of Souls is set in a new gothic city called Westmarch, and will feature a brand new playable class – the heavy weight war machine that is The Crusader.
The Crusader is described as being a walking tank, and looks like a particularly roided and mean version of everyone’s favourite fantasy archetype – the Paladin. The Crusader use their armour and shields as their weapons as well as a range of mid range spells to keep their enemies at bay.
As well as a new setting and new class , Reaper of Souls features 4 new types of monsters for you to vanquish, the Seraph , Summoner Of The Dead Executioner and the Death Maiden. According to the game’s creative director, the major focus with Reaper Of Souls is the endgame content, and with the new ‘loot 2.0’ system, you will have loot that is better tailored to the class you’re playing and a greater chance of getting those shiny legendary loot.
As well as the new loot system, Blizzard announced that the game will feature a new mode of play – loot runs, which will last between fifteen and twenty minutes and contain completely randomised enemies and loot.
The game’s release date has yet to be announced but is playable on Gamescom’s show floor, stay tuned to Expansive DLC for our incoming impressions.
