Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree becomes first DLC nominated for The Game Awards Game of the Year

In a surprise move for The Game Awards, DLCs became eligible to be ‘Game of the Year’.

Of course, the Elden Ring expansion has been highly anticipated for some time and is one of the most eagerly awaited games this year.

For a title and DLC that breaks boundaries, it seems only fitting then that it has been nominated for Game of the Year at this year’s Game Awards.

Alongside Balatro, Astro Bot, Black Myth: Wukong, Final Fantasy VII: Rebirth, and Metaphor ReFantazio, Shadow of the Erdtree is in the running for this years’ Game of the Year.

While some see this as controversial – considering the kind of year it’s been for games and this is an expansion to a pre-existing Game Awards winner – it none the less shows the importance of this piece of content, regardless of whether it goes on to win.

Shadow of the Erdtree has also been nominated for Best Roleplaying Game, Best Art Direction and Best Game Direction. A pretty successful – and we feel deserving – run out. Will it win any awards? We won’t have long to find out when The Game Awards airs on December 13.
