Expansive DLC has gone IndieGoGo GaGa

Today, we’ve announced the start of a bold new project to fundamentally change and improve the site. Through Indiegogo, we hope our goals will be realized, but we need your help to get there.

Expansive DLC has started an IndieGoGo campaign to help realise the next phase of our ambitious goals.

Amongst other things, the goals include a complete site redesign, Facebook and browser game coverage, sub-sites under one Expansive banner, an Expansive App, animated vidcasts featuring site mascot Geoff the Cat, and an interactive e-zine with comic strips, gaming columns and other unique content.

The stretch goals are varied and will enable the site to share its unique content with a much broader audience.

As Ray Willmott, Editor and Owner of Expansive DLC, explains.

“Expansive DLC has been open for a short time and already attracted unprecedented attention. The site has stormed past 150k Page Views and seen over 65k unique visitors since it opened in January. Excitingly, the Expansive community continues to grow and has accomplished more than I dreamed possible in less than half a year, but it’s still only scratching the surface. Our future goals are highly ambitious and will require a great deal of work. That’s why we’ve chosen to go the crowd-funding route to help meet these challenges.”

“Unfortunately, Expansive DLC staff are part-time and currently don’t have the resources to set these goals in motion. In order to take the next steps, we’ve mutually agreed to turn to crowd-funding, recognising the incredible opportunities it can afford us.”

“Admittedly, we’re taking great risks sharing our intentions in the public domain. There’s a lot of things that could go wrong.”

“It is important, however, to make people aware of the direction Expansive DLC is heading in. Our readers have the right to provide feedback on our goals, good or bad, and we want to offer them those opportunities. If they’re so inclined, they can also generously contribute to help give those goals an extra boost.’

Expansive DLC opened on New Years Eve 2012 and provides Expansive Overviews (appraisals on all major releases, assessing technical limitations and achievements, then offering areas for improvement), Expansive Opportunities (Previews with the site’s own unique perspective) DLC Reviews and Patch Reviews (individual reviews that assess a game’s developing nature before and after the release of a patch, then scoring them out of 5).

We’re asking for £5,000 funding at its most basic goal level for site housekeeping and general improvements, but then see the final stretch goals climb up to £150k, enabling us to start publishing e-zines with Expansive-themed content.

‘The Expansive DLC audience is extremely broad. We interact with people from all over the world; some as far-reaching as Vietnam and Australia. People may be surprised to learn that most of the site’s views are from the USA, despite the fact most of our staff are based in the United Kingdom.”

“We sought an outlet that didn’t have those restrictions. IndieGoGo turned out to be the perfect fit.’

The campaign is now officially underway and can be seen here. The full goal breakdown can be viewed there.

‘It has been an absolute pleasure running Expansive DLC. The staff have been incredibly supportive and hard-working. The public reaction has been promising and hopeful and the site has established some exciting relationships. I would like to thank everyone for their continued support. I assure you, the best is yet to come.’
