It’s now been confirmed that both The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild and The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom will be getting Nintendo Switch 2 upgrade packs.
You can continue to play the Switch 1 version of both games on Switch 2, of course, but to get enhanced versions of the both games that include additional functionality, you’ll either need to follow the upgrade path for both games which works out at $9.99 each, or if you don’t already own them, buy Switch 2 copies of both games.
This is also possible through the brand new Virtual Game Cards which basically create a digital form of the games on a designated Switch device even if you have the cartridges.
Both games have been enhanced for Nintendo Switch 2, including HDR support, improved frame rates, and significantly reduced loading times.
Zelda Notes have also been added to the games where you can ‘use navigation to find shrines and Koroks, hear previously untold stories from in-game characters, share Autobuild blueprints, and more!’ Zelda Notes is usable through the Nintendo Switch App.
It’s also worth pointing out that the Switch 2 version of Breath of the Wild does not include the DLC pack and this is sold seperately – unless you already own it.
But the best part is, if you’re a Nintendo Switch Online subscriber, you’ll actually get both upgrades at no additional charge on launch day.
Both upgrades for Breath of the Wild and Tears of the Kingdom will launch with Nintendo Switch 2 on June 5.
