Dead Space 3 To Contain Micro transactions

EA are after all your monies, even after you’ve already spent money on their game.

With the brand new micro transaction system in Dead Space 3, you will be able to assist EA in their grand scheme. When attempting to craft a weapon add-on in the game, without the required materials, the game will produce a “Cannot craft, Additional resources required”, message. The message will then lead players to the marketplace where they can purchase the resources as DLC.

When Eurogamer asked about this, they were give the following response –

“You can buy resources with real money, but scavenger bots can also give you the currency that you can use on the marketplace … So you don’t have to spend [real world] dollars.”

EA added.

“There are a lot of weapon parts that are only available to buy later in the game. Unless you’re playing through it again [on New Game Plus].”

Pricing has not yet been confirmed, but it’s believed currency will be available to buy in varying packs for players who wish to lessen the challenge the game presents.

This isn’t a new concept. Micro transactions have shown their head in other games, such as Mass Effect 3 and the multiplayer portion of Assassin’s Creed 3. Dead Space 3, however, is the first big title to include them in its single player.

We’ll have more on this topic in the coming days.

Do you think this decision will pay off for EA?

Thanks, Eurogamer
