This weeks’ featured release is a big one as it sees us return to the Lands Between for Elden Ring Nightreign!
From Software are expanding the universe of their cult classic in an unexpected way by providing a multiplayer first foray, designed to be played co-op with three players.
What exactly is Elden Ring Nightreign?
So the first thing to say is this isn’t exactly Elden Ring 2, more Elden Ring 1.5. It’s also not an expansion for Elden Ring like Shadow of the Erdtree.
It’s a standalone adventure, set in the Elden Ring world, that is centered around and geared towards three player co-op. The idea is you still explore the amazing open world you know and love from the base game, but it leans more into the multiplayer component From have built up through their Souls series. Both for PVP and PVE.
You have various different classes to choose between in Nightreign, and use them to battle through a procedural environment, working together with other Nightfarers across a period of three days to fight back the menacing threats that lurk throughout.
Because on Night 3? That’s when the Night Lords come out to play and they’re ready to kick your ass!
How does it work?
After you choose your class, you are dropped into the world as a level one character and have to decide how you want to build up your strength, skill, and endurance.
Set in Limveld, you either go the traditional route of killing enemies, claiming their essence and levelling up at a Lost Grace, or you could try to infiltrate an enemy base and gather unique information. Perhaps you go treasure hunting or fight tougher enemies for unique rewards.
Regardless, you work together as a team to combat overwhelming threats or split apart to try and maximise your time before Night falls. Once it does, the challenge amplifies exponentionally as the field of battle shrinks ala Fortnite and if you’re taken in by it, you’ll be forced into battle with randomly spawning enemies.
Basically, if you’ve ever lived in fear of randomly spawning Elden Ring / Dark Souls bosses right next to you, Nightreign is probably not the game for you.
What classes are there?
There are eight classes in total in Elden Ring Nightreign, each with their own weapons, arts, and passive abilities. You have…
- Wylder
- Guardian
- Ironeye
- Duchess
- Raider
- Recluse
- Executor
The Duchess, for example, is a cunning thief who has quick reflexes and can confuse enemies. Whereas the Guardian has a whirlwind attack that takes enemies off their feet and plants into the ground, creating a circle of light that protects allies in battles.
Anything else to know?
You can also collect runes from your battles and when returning to the Roundtable Hold, you can then equip them before going out again to maximise certain attributes, like improved damage output or more health. Even adjusting the performance of your skills.
You can also gain objectives during your play sessions that help you learn more about your past, unlock more of the story and ultimately lead you to even greater rewards.
And, of course, there are ways to customise your characters to make them fit in with previous Soul games. I definitely spotted a Bloodborne costume. And maybe just a little bit of vintage Dark Souls with some Praising of the Sun!
There is a Deluxe Edition of the game available as well as a standalone addition which adds…
- Additional DLC (Due by Q4 2025)
- Additional playable characters and bosses
- Digital Artbook & Mini Soundtrack.
Pre-orders can also get a bonus gesture that can be used in-game, though you can apparently obtain this later on in the game. It just unlocks it right from the start.
This one sounds super intriguing and exciting and you don’t have long to wait!
