Grand Theft Auto VI confirmed for 2025, releasing on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series

After years of waiting, Grand Theft Auto VI was fully, officially revealed to the world yesterday.

Released slightly ahead of schedule due to the trailer leaking early, we got our first glimpse at the next chapter in gaming’s biggest franchise.

Grand Theft Auto VI returns to Vice City, specifically the state of Leonida, but will also take you further and beyond over the course of the game.

The game has two leads, and the trailer specifically focuses on Lucia, a seemingly ex-convict determined by the prison clothing she wears and the anklet she’s sporting in the key art.

She’s joined by a man – who seems to be her partner- but the trailer doesn’t give too much away about him as yet. What seems clear is both have a kind of Bonnie and Clyde thing going on by holding up stores and zooming ahead in fast getaways. That’s sure to lend itself to many fun, interesting scenarios.

The other key detail is GTA VI is only confirmed for PS5 and Xbox Series, but will be skipping last gen and PC at launch. While PC is more of a surprise, looking at the trailer, it’s pretty clear this is going to be a game that truly maximises the potential of modern hardware, finally letting PS4/Xbox One rest and retire.

The trailer is probably full of clues we’ll be scanning over for weeks to come, but for now, it’s just great to get confirmation GTA 6 is real, we have an idea what it’s about, and we have a release window.
