PES 2014 coming to current-gen. Skipping next-gen

PES will be back and in a big way later this year. PES 2014 will be powered by an all-new engine and feature tons of new features that will surely bring a smile to any footy fan’s face.

Powered by Hideo Kojima’s brand new FOX Engine (you know, the one behind MGS V: The Phantom Pain) PES 2014 will be defined by six core foundations.

TrueBall Tech centres everything on the ball, both how it moves and how it’s used. It allows players to trap or knock on a pass using the analog, taking into account weight shift and height/speed of a pass. TrueBall Tech even allows a ball to be chested or nodded past an opponent or put into play to a team mate.

Players can even shield the ball from opposing players and use controls to wrong-foot them.

Motion Animation Stability System simulates the bodily contact between multiple players with seamless animations. M.A.S.S is a reactive, dynamic system, and is completely suited to individual, unique fouls. There are also more styles of tackle and sliding types, thus the game’s physics engine is completely new and exciting.

Heart creates an emotional hook, and makes matches for visiting teams exceptionally imposing. It also recreates the effects of support, both individually and as a team. Players have mental attributes in addition to playing styles and skills, and will be adversely affected if having a bad game. Equally, team mates will pick up on that and make more of an effort to support a team mate. In contrast, if a player has a good game, it can boost the morale of the whole team.

Weather will also play a factor and can influence the feelings of fans in a stadium

PES ID will be improved and features a greater number, as well as twice as many stars with extra animation and improved AI.

Team Play introduces a new Combination Play system which allows players to set up different tactics on key areas of the pitch with three or more players. This allows teams to exploit defences, use flanks or overlap play.

And, of course, there’s the core. Facial animations are a lot more realistic, the look of the kits is better and there is no restriction on control. The match flow has also been improved, and allows for more off-the-cuff tactical decisions. Cut-scenes have also been removed after key events.

Free Kick control is improved and now allows for decoy runs and short passes. Players can also move the position of their keeper for a kick.

Penalties also use a target guide that is changed according to the kicker’s ability and where they intend to place the ball. The goal keeper can even move ahead of the kick, sensing when the penalty taker is not particularly strong.

PES 2014 will also mark the first appearance of the recently-signed Asia Champions League, adding a wealth of officially licensed clubs to the competition; and the new game will also exclusively retain its use of the UEFA Champions League club competition, with other tournaments expected to be announced shortly.

PES 2014 sounds like an incredibly exciting new start for the franchise and it looks pretty darn gorgeous!

In a controversial move, PES 2014 will see all current-gen releases but will completely skip next-gen systems (Playstation 4 and Xbox One) as well as 3DS and Vita (which is odd because it’s actually in development for PSP)
