EA have been sending out emails to customers informing them that BioWare points will be made obsolete on Origin in October.
This means that select DLC content that previously required them, specifically from the Mass Effect and Dragon Age franchises, will now be free, effective immediately.
The main products in question are…
- Dragon Age: Origins
- Dragon Age II
- Mass Effect 2
- Mass Effect 3
This means you can now get some of the best DLC ever made, absolutely free. This includes gems like Lair of the Shadow Broker and Citadel for Mass Effect, as well as all the story content for Dragon Age 1, including Awakening.
BioWare Points were previously purchasable in packs, which then allowed you to buy DLC content for BioWare games on PC. This archaic form of currency is now being completely phased out by October, though, and those who have existing points on their accounts are being informed they need to spend them.
This does exclude the Mass Effect 3 Multiplayer DLC, however, as they will be available ‘using credits you’ve earned in-game’ after October 11. And that anyone who spent money on the premium currency and was ‘previously purchased using BioWare Points’ will still be available.
Of course, if you’ve already been playing Mass Effect: Legendary Edition, you’ve already been reaping the benefits of some of these classics, but still, free is free, right?
