In a weekly column for Famitsu, game director Masahiro Sakurai has confirmed there won’t be a Fighter Pass 3.
This means that Super Smash Bros Ultimate will end with a final roster of 88 fighters, with just 6 more left to announce.
We recently learned that Byleth from Fire Emblem: Three Houses was the final addition to Fighter Pass 1 and more details on future DLC were forthcoming.
This wasn’t the most popular choice of fighter with speculation running all over the place, and Sakurai has also acknowledged this in the column saying Nintendo make the final decisions over fighters.
Interestingly, Sakurai has also said there are no current plans for a new Smash Bros, which means once Fighter Pass 2 is complete, he may well transition onto another project.
With the runaway success of Switch, we’re unlikely to see successor hardware for several years yet and with this being the biggest and best Smash Bros game to date, it will be nice to see Sakurai take on a new project.
