The Last of Us Part 2 will add Grounded and Permadeath Modes This Week

The Last of Us Part 2 is getting two major new modes added as part of a free patch this week.

Uncovered by VG247 and PowerPyx on Twitter Naughty Dog updated the trophy list for The Last of Us Part 2 and it shows some DLC trophies.

The first ‘Dig Two Graves’ is given to the player once they finish the game in Ground Mode.

The second ‘You Can’t Stop This’ is a reward for beating the game with Permadeath enabled.

For those who don’t remember, Grounded was the hardest difficulty in TLOU 1 and so it stands to reason this will be the same for Part 2.

Amongst other things, Grounded removed Listen mode, limited supplies, and more.

Permadeath, meanwhile, is a lot more self-explantory. Basically, once you die, you’ll have to start all the way from the beginning again. Yikes!

However, Naughty Dog have revealed you can also play Permadeath with checkpoints on a per-chapter and per-act basis.

Naughty Dog have also confirmed new gameplay modifiers are being added, like One-Shot and Touch of Death. These are unlocked once you beat the game.

You can even voluntarily disable Listen Mode, or use some of the new display options. Naughty Dog are even adding in more accessibility features.

Sounds like a beast. And a little bit out of my wheelhouse.

If you haven’t played The Last of Us Part 2 yet, it’s my Game of the Year so far and comes highly recommended.
