A firmware update for Wii U hit earlier this week, bringing the console to version 4.03. This update is fairly minor, though adds some key changes to life outside of Nintendo gaming.
For starters, there is now USB Keyboard Support. This will obviously make messaging and web-surfing much easier.
It’s also a lot easier to navigate to your Friends List now, reducing the time taken. There are also now improvements to the Internet Browser, such as the ability to read PDFs and screenshot uploads.
Perhaps the best feature, however, is the ability to output audio AND video to the Wii U GamePad controller while playing Wii games. Finally, one of the big features we’ve been requesting since launch.
Here’s the full changelog.
- Updates to the Wii U Menu for easier access to the Friends List
- You can now output audio and video to the Wii U GamePad controller in Wii Mode
- Support for USB keyboards
- Improvements to the Internet Browser (such as support for PDFs and for screenshot uploads to websites)
Expect a bigger update towards the Summer, but no details of when that will hit as yet.
