World of Warcraft getting in-game micro-transaction store

Interesting move is interesting.

Blizzard have confirmed that World of Warcraft is soon to receive an in-game micro-transaction store which offers players experience boosters and other such items.

The news broke on the Battle.net forums where Community Manager, Bashiok explained that..

‘The benefits of an in-game store are pretty clear. We think everyone would appreciate the convenience of being able to make sure purchases without having to leave the game.’

‘Ultimately, that’s our long-term goal for the system, though there’s quite a bit of work involved in retrofitting those existing items into the new system.’

The in-game store will be tested at first and will be defined and structured by player feedback.

Bashiok admits that Blizard have already had ‘a lot of requests from players in different regions for convenience-orientated items’ and assures them that ‘as with other new ideas we’ve introducted as WoW has evolved – your feedback plays a hugely important part in determining what we add to the game’

Plans are already moving swiftly ahead and the store will appear on the PTR as soon as plans are finalised.

What are your thoughts on this?

Does this move suggest that World of Warcraft could be about to move into the Free to Play realm sometime this year? Subscriptions have dwindled in recent months and the game has now run for a considerable amount of years.

Interesting times…
