All You Need To Know about Forspoken: Editions, DLC, Content and More

Just like that, 2023 is here and it’s already throwing some gaming bangers our way.

We kick off with Forspoken, a PlayStation 5 timed console exclusive from Square Enix, which releases on January 24. So it’s not too far away!

Here’s all the main things you need to know ahead of launch, including editions, what DLC to expect, where you can play it and more.

Formats

Forspoken is releasing on Steam and is a timed console exclusive on PlayStation 5 for two years, meaning the earliest it could come to Xbox is January 24, 2025. It won’t be coming to PlayStation 4.

Who’s developing/publishing?

This is a Square Enix game and a first from Luminous Productions, using a unique Luminous Engine that takes advantage of PlayStation 5’s power in a variety of ways.

What is special about the PlayStation 5 version?

Forspoken makes great use of the DualSense controller. Players will be able to fine-tune the power of their spells with the Adaptive Triggers. You’ll also be able to feel the terrain through the haptic feedback and the built-in speakers will have in-game voice acting.

PlayStation cosmetics will also be available exclusively on the platform, which are inspired by the Triangle, Square, Circle and Cross shapes on PlayStation hardware. This includes a No Limits Cloak, The Symbol Combo Necklace and Trigger Happy Nails.

PlayStation owners can also download and check out a demo of Forspoken right now!

Release Date

Forspoken releases on January 24, 2023 on PlayStation 5 and Steam.

Will there be DLC?

Yes, DLC is planned. We even know the title ‘In Tanta We Trust’ and the release Window ‘Summer 2023’. Little is known about the content yet, other than it is a prequel to the base game and if you pre-order the Digital Deluxe Edition you’ll be able to get Early Access to the content.

Tell me about the game

Forspoken follows the story of Frey Holland, a New Yorker who has been transported to the land of Athia. Frey has also been mysteriously equipped with a bracelet, known as Cuff, that lets her cast powerful abilities.

Players will explore this epic new world, fighting all sorts of incredible creatures as you fight back against ‘The Break’ and use mind-blowing parkour across four epic, open-world realms.

Anything else we should know?

The game was originally pushed back from a 2022 release window for additional polish and is coming early out the gates in 2023.

Bear McCreary, who just did the score for the incredible God of War: Ragnarök, is working on the game along with Gary Schyman. The game also has an all-star writing team, including Amy Hennig of Uncharted fame, and Gary Whitta, who wrote Star Wars: Rogue One.
