Defiance First DLC: Enter The Castithan

Defiance: Enter the Cstithan

Cross-platform Sci-Fi MMO Defiance has DLC incoming. Entitled the ‘Enter The Castithan’ pack It is the first of a promised 5 sets of DLC intended for release for the game this year. The DLC will feature as promised a mixture of both paid and unpaid content along with additional in-game Items to be sold in the games store, which will offer players an all new playable race the ‘Castithians’ (paid content only) , achievements, battle arenas and most notably of all an entirely new game mode called ‘Sieges’ which will finally make good on the promise to feature crossover game play between Defiance the game and Defiance the TV show, details are slim on the new game mode as of yet but hopefully it will offer more than simply seeing characters from the TV show appear in the games first few missions.

As mentioned by Trion Worlds  Executive Producer Nathan Richardson in the games latest community blog, the game has been plagued by bugs since It’s difficult launch and has required multiple patches in order to get the game to a playable state.

It’s good to see that we have made great progress since launch and we have teams continuing to make improvements and fix bugs. At the very least, the feedback and numbers indicate that you are happier. No, we haven’t forgotten about keycodes drop ratios, extended downtimes or Freight Yard. We know we aren’t perfect yet.

Because of this the game has been met with a somewhat lukewarm response from both the community and the critics and yet Defiance has soldiered on and against all its faults has gathered a somewhat sustainable player base. Nathan Richardson mentioned how the game has been likened to a good B-Movie because of this.

Some comments I’ve even enjoyed quite a lot and yet I’m happy that sentence never came up. It’s not us. We’ve been likened to a good B-movie, being about as deep as a bag of chips but great fun. As having issues, but always dragging you right back in for more … I have no problems with these.

So Trion Worlds at the very least recgonises that their game at this point is far from perfect and are looking to address the problems facing the games online capabilities in It’s latest DLC package. Will this be enough to keep players interested in Defiance in time for all 5 DLC packs to be released within a year, it’s doubtful if problems such as extended down time and  the release of patches that cause more problems than they fix continue.

Following on from our report on ‘Season Passes‘ questioning whether the purchase of season passes is worth it?  It’s good to see Trion Worlds finally making good on their own season pass which will offer those early adopters full access to the paid element of all 5 DLC packs, but are players getting their value for money if their forced to enjoy this DLC they’ve already paid for in a game still plagued by server issues and in game? Only further releases will tell.
