Ubisoft Unveils New IP

Ubisoft today announced a new IP called Grow Home dubbed a “quirky, experiential climbing game inspired by the likes of Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy and the adorable animated film Wall-E”. It started as an experiment within the Newcastle based Reflections studio and grew into an open-world game based on two main pillars: Climbing and Exploration. In Grow Home you’ll play BUD, a Botanical Utility Droid sent on a mission across the galaxy to seek out a new species of flora to help oxygenate his home world. BUD finds a giant beanstalkish plant called a Star Plant that looks perfect for the job and your job is to  grow it to maturity and harvest the seeds it produces. As you climb you’ll pass a host of floating islands filled with creepy caves majestic waterfalls

– Climbing: The world of Grow Home is built for vertical exploration and the unique climbing mechanic brings unprecedented freedom. Players control BUD’s hands independently to grab onto any surface, scaling the giant Star Plant as it grows and expands.

– Exploration: There are no set paths in Grow Home. Players are free to explore the many micro islands and hidden caves in this fun and beautiful open  world. Every island encountered is scattered with hidden crystals to power the players’ journey and expand their abilities.

Producer Pete Young had this to say on the official blog; “Whether it’s BUD’s charming, procedurally generated animation, the awesome structure of the Star Plant players create or the beautiful landscapes, there is a peaceful, innocent vibe about Grow Home that makes the game utterly unique.”

Let’s take a look at the trailer shall we?
