Overkill’s The Walking Dead DLC won’t have microtransactions, made up of free and premium content

Almir Listo has confirmed to Expansive that the DLC model for Overkill’s The Walking Dead will be similar to Payday 2.

Having tried various different models with Payday 2, Almir Listo says the team now have clear strategy for Overkill’s The Walking Dead.

No microtransactions. No pink hats. Free DLC. Paid DLC.

As the studio has plenty of data with what works and what doesn’t with Payday 2, they are now in a position to understand what their community wants from future games and what works in modern games.

We figure this is the clearest, best way for us to show the community that we care by giving free content but also so that we can keep on making the game … we are doing our best to make the most content we can.

That said, while there is a clear roadmap in place for Overkill’s The Walking Dead, Almir conceded that the team has also learned that the best-laid plans don’t always … well … go to plan.

What we learned over the years is that we need to be flexible. We can have a plan but the plan is also there to be changed in case of community feedback.
