Capcom surprised us all with a major third-party launch exclusive for Xbox One. The exciting franchise, Dead Rising, will be hitting Xbox One in November.
The game is the result of years of work and these new details just start to scratch the surface of whats been achieved.
In a recent interview with AusGamers, we’ve gleaned a lot more information about the game and it sounds highly impressive.
The main, campaign mode will not encompass the infamous time limit people see as a Dead Rising staple, allowing people to roam the free world and do as they please. However, if people want to, they can have all the time-limit features from the original titles in a seperate, Nightmare mode. The good news, however, is that both modes follow the exact same story. Nightmare mode is similar to the Infinity Mode featured in the original Dead Rising.
As Producer, Josh Bridge explains…
“It’ll completely hand your ass to you with Nightmare Mode where the time-limit is going to be pushing you along a schedule – you’re going to have to meet and finish the missions at a certain time or you’re going to miss them; you’re going to miss the optional content; you’re going to run out of time – a bomb is going to likely nuke the whole area.
“You can only save in Washrooms and it [just] keeps that classic pressure, but if you want to have the freedom to explore… we have a bigger world and there’s even more stuff to do in it than any other Dead Rising, and if you want that and to take it all at your own leisure, that’s there for you. You can even hop between both modes if you want – it all goes to the one profile and saves all your experience points.”
Excitingly, the game has also changed in how it uses Kinect. Survivors are a key part of the Dead Rising 3 experience, but how they control and how they co-operate with you is a whole other ball-game…
“Survivors aren’t just escort missions and babysitting, if you complete and help them out they’re going to offer to help you out now. And now they’ll just fight to their death with you.”
“You can direct them and give them perks and, actually, with the Kinect, we got it to detect your finger pointing which actually evokes a cursor in the game and you can just say “attack” instead of multiple button inputs.”
You can even yell at your Kinect sensor, attracting the undead and inspiring them to come after you instead of gnawing on survivor brains!
While this may be seen as a bit gimmicky, it sounds like Kinect is actually being put to good use and really suits Microsoft’s updated model.
With Smartglass support also confirmed to be part of the Dead Rising 3 experience, offering exclusive missions, it seems Capcom absolutely get the expansive possibilities of Xbox One and have even gone on record to say that, without Microsoft, development on the game would have never happened.
