Disco Elysium gets Hardcore with challenging new Mode

A new update has been made available for the award-winning Disco Elysium, making it that much harder.

Now, admittedly, this is already a really tough game. You’ll face some hard choices which can lead you down some dark paths and ultimately to a Game Over screen.

A new Hardcore mode ups the ante even further, though, making sure you can fail much more and see diminished chances of success.

The mode will make sure you’re also poorer, have even less money to start and can gather little more. Not helped by the fact prices have shot up.

This will add more emphasis on your current possessions, ensuring you’ll be better off in a less is more scenario.

You’ll also level up faster by gaining extra XP each time you finish a task – not as good as it sounds, trust me! Therefore, that means more strategising and thinking more carefully about bonsues and debuffs.

Ultimately, this means you’re going to have to rely on the ‘hard stuff’ though, which means more booze and cigarettes to clear your head and build up your courage. A slippery slope, for sure.

In addition, widescreen support has been added into the game.

Disco Elysium is out now on PC, with console releases due later in 2020. And if you haven’t played yet, you definitely should. Check out our impressions and see why we think it’s “a stunning exploration of a character’s inner psyche.”
