The Case of the Golden Idol Redux releases ahead of The Rise of the Golden Idol

An expanded version of the original Case of the Golden Idol is now available as a free update.

Releasing ahead of the highly anticipated sequel, this expanded version of the original game is in response to the various updates it’s had since the original launch in 2022.

Beyond the two expansions, there’s been ports to every format and even to Netflix. As such, there’s been a bunch of improvements to game, including updates to the UI, new hint system, localisations and more.

So PlayStack have decided to release a definitive edition of the game and provided it as a free update to everyone who owns the game on Steam and across all platforms.

However, if you still prefer the traditional Golden Idol experience, you can play the classic version of the game on Steam or opt to play the new Redux edition with the updates. Regardless, you can transfer your progress to the Redux Edition if you so choose.

Meanwhile on Switch, the original version of the game will be delisted and replaced with the Redux release. Those who own or purchased it before October 9 will still be able to play this version and be granted the Redux Version free of charge. Xbox and PlayStation, meanwhile, are unaffected as they are built in the same framework.

All this, ahead of the biggest and most exciting announcement – the sequel, Rise of the Golden Idol – will launch on November 12 across all platforms. And if you’re quick, you can download the demo in Steam Next Fest right now and play the first case.

We loved the original and its DLC and cannot wait to get stuck back in with a new adventure.
